And for my first post...
The Indians have won 4 straight and are just 5 behind the Twins and 9 behind the White Sox. So my question is, what constitutes a "successful" end of the season for the Tribe? Before the season started, I thought this team should be very much in contention for the AL Central and considering neither the Sox nor the Twins are likely to keep up their other-worldly paces, I still think that's true. I really think that to be a successful season the Indians need to go into the final week of the season with a legit shot at getting at least the wild card.

I did the math on Sunday, and if the White Sox payed only .500 for the rest of the season, the Indians would have to play .600. I don't know that either are likely. If the Indians win 84-90 games, and don't make the playoffs, I'd be happy. (Of course, I'd rather win 82 and make the playoffs, but that won't happen.) 84-90 wins, from a team that still has a lot of holes, would be impressive. They are at replacement level ability at 1B, 3B, LF and RF. Broussard, Boone, Crisp and Blake are all average at best. To have a plus .500 season, with what is really a mediocre everyday lineup would be quite impressive.
I'd love to see them make a run at a Reds OF. Kearns has had a bad year, but Willy Mo Pena would be a geat addition. Gerut should get Blake's at bats. Either haffner needs to learn 1B, or we need to find one elsewhere. Broussard is a nice player, but we need more production offensively.
I like Chad's take. . . and I think it's a possibility. It seems like we're beating up on poor teams now, but at least we're smoking them. Kind of like the cavs at the beginning of this season. But it seems like our bats are coming around, the bullpen is obviously dope. . . let's see some magic? Yes. let's.
Tribe has won 8 n a row. Obviously, things are looking good right now. Just a few back from the wild card and 8.5 back from the White Sox. The win streak is nice, but its the smaller things that make me optimistic about a playoff run this year. The bullpen has been sick. The starters are solid and improving. Elarton has had a bunch of quality starts recently, Millwood looks good, Lee has been great after his first two starts of the year and Westbrook just needs more run support.
The lineup is coming around. The only problem right now is Victor. If he starts hitting then you have sizemore, crisp, hafner, martinez as a solid top four with grady and coco getting on base enough to setup those RBI opportunities. Boone isn't a .150 hitter and has turned things around (370 over the last 2 weeks). Meanwhile Broussard looks good at the plate and has had plenty of good at bats. Belliard has been useful and Gerut looks more like his rookie year than his aborted sophomore slump. Oh and Jhonny will continue to improve.
Why can't this be an above average lineup?
Its going to be tough to muscle through and take the wildcard this year, but I will be disappointed if we aren't in it until that last few days.
