Exciting Moments

We all know those moments in which you yelled during a sporting event b/c goosebumps weren't enough. What are some of them. . . a few that come from 30 seconds of thinking

1. Maurice Clarett stripping the ball during the Fiesta Bowl

2. VC dunk contest

3. Albert Belle Grand Slam during the summer of '95. Tribe had been down a lot and it was the bottom of the 9th or 10th. In the car coming home, listening to the comeback. Get into the driveway, wait in the car for five minutes. TV is on in our den (I can see through the window). Sprint inside. See the homer. Unreal.

4. TMac 13 points in 30 seconds this year. Best ever (better than Reggie, forget the argument that his was in the playoffs).

5. Celtics 20 point comeback a few years ago

6. Reggie's turnaround 3 against the nets two years ago (last year?) to send it to Double OT. you also had RJ's block and another crazy shot sending the game to OT

I liked some of those for sure...added to that list:

Tony Pena goes deep to beat the Sox in the 95 playoffs

Anthony Thomas fumbling against Northwestern my freshmen year

"New" Browns win first game on hail mary

Lebron's three to send the Cavs-Bulls game late this season to OT

Kenny Lofton scores from second on a past ball effectively clinching the 1995 ALCS and sending the Tribe to the World Series.

Definitely forgot a good one.

2001, Indians-Mariners, Sunday night baseball. I was actually in the press box for the end of the game as the Indians came back from 12 down. I specifically remember Lofton scoring the winning run and ending up upside down over Eddie Taubensee's shoulder. The press box is supposed to be neutral and quiet, but people were going nuts.

You could make a list from that 95 Tribe team. The Belle GS came off of Lee Smith, of the Angels, and I heard it just as I was getting back in my car after a Van Halen show at Blossom. Also from that year, the first game that really sticks as a sign of that team's greatness was won by a Paul Sorrento 2 run homer vs. Toronto. Grimsly started and got shelled, and Chad Ogea pitched 7 innings in relief, holding the fort.
I was at the Mariners game comeback, and left after 4 innings. It was a Sunday night, ESPN so it didn't start until 8. I had been walking around downtown all day and it was very hot, so we were pretty worn down. Left early.

As for my most exciting moment witnessed in person, no doubt. I was at the '86 playoff game vs. the Jets. Down by 10 with just over 4 minutes left, Bernie took over, and Mark Mosely hit about a 23 yarder to send it to overtime. It went into the second overtime, but it didn't matter We knew that no matter how many times the Jets got the ball, they just weren't moving against the Browns D. On the flip side, I was there a week later for "The Drive" which sent the game to overtie, only to see it decided on a field goal that was no good. Rich Karlis and his bare foot can rot in hell knowing that the Browns, not Broncos should have been the AFC's sacrifice to the Giants that year.

Of course, a real test of a thrilling moment is whether or not you have to describe it, or you can just say a name. Cleveland teams aside, my most thrilling moments in my lifetime:

Buster Douglas. Hands down, number one.

Kirk Gibson

Mike Eruzione. OK, this is number one.

Keith Smart

Lorenzo Charles/Derek Whitman

Stealing from second. . . that was huge. Can't believe I forgot that one.

As for live performances, I was at the Kordell Stewart hail mary at UMich sitting in the Colorado section. I'm an idiot.
